It is officially time to transition my busy busy toddler into a busy busy big boy room! You know I love a good theme- and this boy is all about anything that moves. I wanted to make a staetment with wallpaper, but choose something that will grow with him over time (enter this plaid wallpaper from York Wallcoverings). I also wanted to figure out how to reflect what he is into right now- namely cars and trucks and things that go, while still being beautiful.
When I saw that Nestig launched their Richard Scarry collection I hit "add to cart" faster than you can say Dingo Dog. With each layer of character the room came to life. Here are the details of the room:
Adding Character with Shiplap Walls
To set the tone for the room, I started by installing shiplap on some of the walls. Not only does it add texture and depth, but it also gave us the perfect opportunity to hide his French double doors. It was difficult and a LOT of fractions (and maybe some colorful language), but i managed to seamlessly hide the doors!
For the paint, I chose "NYPD" by Behr—a rich, bold blue that pairs perfectly with the wallpaper.
Statement Walls with Plaid Wallpaper
Next, I installed "Hunter" plaid wallpaper by York Wallcoverings from Joanna Gaines' Magnolia line. It's classic and cozy and so so beautiful, and will grow with him over the years.
Functional and Fun Furnishings from Nestig
I have been a big fan of Nestig's heirloom quality pieces over the years for our nurseries, and when I saw their Big Kid release along with the Richard Scarry collection I knew it was meant to be. Here's what is in the room:
Off-Road Kids Bed - The centerpiece of the room! This playful bed has hidden storage in the front that is perfect for stashing toys, books, and clothes. Our son was SO excited for his car bed and wants to show everyone that comes over.
Seabound Shelf - This has to be the cutest way to store toys ever. It's such an imaginative design and makes toy rotation easy.
Richard Scarry-Themed Curtains and Wall Art - Inspired by the beloved "Cars and Trucks and Things That Go" books, these pieces add a playful element to the room form on of our son's favorite book series.
Willow Dresser in Walnut - The warm wood tones of this dresser complement the plaid wallpaper and shiplap walls, creating a cohesive look.
This was such a challenging and fun project to complete! The combination of functional storage solutions and whimsical decor ensures that the space is both organized and fun—and a perfect reflection of his personality.
