The Home Reset Challenge Week 1: Assemble The Troops

***This post contains affilliate links.

Happy New Year! We are starting off 2025 creating a more simple, beautiful, easy to manage home. Because our home exists to serve us. For the rest of this week, we are focusing on getting ourselves set up for the year by fine tuning our cleaning arsenal, establishing a cleaning caddy, and decluttering our cleaning supplies. We are following along with my book, The Home Reset and beginning, well, at the beginnning this week.

This Week's Habit: Making the bed every day.

This Week's System Focus: The Cleaning Caddy

This Week's Declutter Challenge: Cleaning Supplies

The Cleaning Caddy

One of my main goals is trying to keep my house tidy is eliminating resistance; taking away obstacles in the way of keeping positive habits easy to maintain. Utilizing a cleaning caddy has been instrumental in eliminating resistance for me. I keep everything I need to reset a room in the caddy so I can grab it and go. Here are the basics I keep in my caddy (you can shop my entire cleaning arsenal here):

  • Disinfectant spray or wipes

  • Small garbage bag roll

  • Nano Towel

  • Magic Eraser

  • All Purpose Spray

  • Scrub Brush

  • Baking Soda Shaker

Feel free to think outside the box with a caddy set up- the point is to make it easy to utilize. I've seen people use a craft cart to stock and wheel around, and my cleaning caddy has evolved to having a cleaning set up in each bathroom for easy access. Ps- All of my DIY cleaning recipes are in the book, but here is my favorite SUPER simple DIY All Purpose Spray Cleaner Recipe I always have on hand:

The vinegar is so good for cutting grease and soap scum, and also is how I clean glass (combined with a nano towel) streak free. BUT- do not use on marble or raw stone as vinegar is acidic and could etch the stone!

Declutter Challenge:

Grab a garbage bag and get ready! Here's my philosophy when it comes to cleaning supplies- if it takes more effort to store, keep track of, or use than it is helpful, toss it! Here are some questions to ask yourself about your cleanign supplies as you go through them this week:

  • Do I have more than supply that does the same job? (Ex: 3 different shower cleaning sprays). If so, consider picking which one works the best and ditch the rest.

  • Have I used this in the past six months? If not, ditch it!

  • Does this work well?

  • Do I like how this smells?

  • Is this necessary for the amount of space it takes up?

My favorite cleaning supplies I keep on hand

Your end goal is an arsenal that is a lean mean cleaning machine. Eliminating the resistance of too many cleaning supplies that are cluttered, disorganized, or hard to care for will be a huge step in resetting your home. If you want to shop my favorite cleaning supplies, click here.

For the rest of the week I will be sharing more about my favorite cleaning supplies and some basics on habits and systems on social media (Tik Tok, Insta, YT) before we dive in to the Kitchen and Dining Room next week!
